Defective ProductsWe expect the products we purchase to be safe for us and our loved ones. For example, drivers expect that seat belts will restrain them in a car accident. Similarly, parents assume that car seats will protect and keep their children safe in the event of a car accident. Generally, consumers expect that the products they purchase and use will not harm them.
However, some products may be manufactured with substandard materials, the product may be malfunction, or the product may not be suitable for its stated purpose, causing a serious accident. Some manufacturers may even be aware that their product is defective, but elect to not recall it and merely hope that no one is seriously injured. Toyota Motors is a recent example.
